Harnessing the full power of the wind through science and innovation
nacaboost wind turbines by novventos are vertical-axis systems designed to operate efficiently at ground level. They optimize wind energy harvesting through a combination of innovative features, including a proprietary rotor design, advanced turbine housing, integrated photovoltaic panels, and an intelligent software management system
Proprietary Rotor Design
The rotor design features an adapted vertical axis Savonius rotor, making it well-suited for near-ground environments. It incorporates airfoil-shaped wings in a proprietary novventos configuration that combines both lift and drag effects, leading to a higher coefficient of performance (cp), efficient energy harvesting, and maximum uptime across a wide range of wind speeds. The rotor is mounted with ball bearings at both the top and bottom, ensuring maximum stability and enabling quiet, vibration-free operation.
Innovative Housing
The housing is one of the key innovations of the novventos design. Its wind-guiding structure prevents the returning rotor blade from inhibiting performance by directing it into a kind of slipstream. More importantly, the housing accelerates the incoming wind toward the rotor, significantly increasing the energy delivered to it. An optional protective rotor enclosure minimizes the risk of bird strikes. Unlike large or medium-scale turbines that often face public resistance due to their visual and environmental impact, the novventos design features an appealing and compact form that integrates easily into its surroundings—for example, on rooftops. This visual unobtrusiveness often simplifies permitting, depending on local regulations.
Smart PV Integration
The integration of solar panels directly onto the housing allows for additional solar energy harvesting from the same surfaces used to accelerate wind toward the rotor. This dual use of space significantly boosts overall system output. By combining wind and solar energy sources, the system achieves exceptionally high uptime and reduces the need for extensive battery storage. Throughout the year, there are very few hours without either wind or sunlight, enabling the nacaboost to deliver a remarkably consistent energy supply and impressive total annual energy output.
Intelligent Software
The software management system of the nacaboost features automated, self-optimizing yaw control, which ensures that the unit is always optimally aligned with the wind direction—or with the sun when wind levels are low—to maximize energy harvesting. A core feature of the novventos system is its automated, self-optimizing energy harvesting mechanism. This intelligent control system continuously adapts operating parameters to match varying wind conditions, applying the optimal load to the generator to maintain the ideal torque-to-rotation ratio and extract the maximum possible energy. When wind speeds drop below a useful threshold, the system seamlessly switches to “solar only” mode, and in the case of excessive wind, it can turn the turbine out of the wind to prevent damage, ensuring both performance and protection.
